I Sow Myself
Performance with Dang Hung Son at H47 Leeuwarden, 7‘50“, 2024

Migration resembles rice planting in many ways. Carefully selected seeds are sown in a nursery bed before seedlings are transplanted to the rice paddy and ripen. Nevertheless, there is no guarantee of a harvest, as it is a process loaded with a mixture of hope, expectation, risk and consequence. Such complexity is embodied performatively in this work where Dang Hung Son and I project our migrating situation onto the sowing of rice into the soil from an unknown land. The performance is accompanied by an audio work which presents the reading of Taiwanese poet Lin Fuan-Chan’s homonymous poem. Sound sample from ‘Mellow’ by Aki Onda.
